Heavy floods on the Danube did not affect the work of the UDS

As a result of the floods on the Danube, shipping problems are recorded in Austria and Slovakia. So far, the natural disaster has not affected the work of the UDS in any way.

USM was told about this by the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company.

The UDS noted that it was difficult to work in the last two months due to the shallowing of the Danube. Due to the low water level on the river, the UDP fleet could not be fully loaded – therefore, currently, the increase in draft is beneficial for the company.

“Our work has not yet been affected by the floods. There are currently problems in Austria and Slovakia. We are loading in Serbia. In a few days, it will be clear whether navigation will be closed,” the UDS commented.

It should be noted that, as of today, there is a threat of the Danube overflowing its banks due to heavy rainfall in Slovakia and Hungary.

A difficult situation is observed in Romania. The worst was in Galatsi County, where 5,000 households in 12 settlements were affected, 252 people were evacuated. Currently, there is no information about the state of operation of the port of Galati.

At the same time, in Poland, the water level in the Byala Glukholazka river rose two meters above the critical mark. A state of natural disaster will be introduced in the country – in the south of the country, due to heavy rains, rivers have overflowed their banks, dams cannot hold back the flow of water.

As previously reported by USM, in the future the Danube may become an internal river of the European Union.
