IMO calls for the creation of safe shipping corridors in the Black Sea

At a two-day emergency meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), leading shipping associations called for the creation of safe corridors for vessels stuck in Ukrainian ports.

Guy Platten, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) said, “Several ships have been hit by munitions, seafarers have been killed or injured, and seafarers of various nationalities have been trapped on ships docked in ports. It is imperative that their evacuation from these dangerous areas be ensured by those states in a position to do so.

Also, ship classification societies stop doing business with the aggressor country, CFTS notes with reference to Splash 24/7.

In particular, cooperation with the Russian Federation is terminated by Lloyd’s Register and the German classification society DNV.
