In the Russian Federation, two tankers collided on a river: there was a leak of oil products

Two tankers collided on the Lena River in Russia. As a result of the accident, oil products leaked.

Two vessels collided on June 12. As a result, 60 to 90 tons of gasoline got into the water. This was reported by rosZMI with reference to the press service of the government of the Irkutsk region.

The captain of the tanker “Erofei Khabarov” was intoxicated. Therefore, instead of him, the ship was controlled by the assistant captain at the time of the collision.

Also, at the meeting of the Emergency Situations Commission, it was announced that the owner of the tanker from which the leak occurred reported the event more than an hour late. This affected the “scale of the incident and the response of the rescue units”.

The oil slick has already passed several settlements located downstream of the Lena River from the collision site. Working groups have been created in these settlements to ensure that people do not use water from the river for their own needs and for watering farm animals.
