India proposed separate arrangements for shipping safety in the Black Sea

India has stepped up talks with Ukraine and Russia on Black Sea shipping security, grain exports and a possible halt to certain types of strikes, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said.

Bloomberg reports this.

According to him, in recent months New Delhi has become more actively involved in efforts to reduce the level of hostilities. Talks with Kiev and Moscow began with the issue of Black Sea shipping security, after which the parties also began discussing grain exports, energy supplies and possible no-strike agreements.

Jaishankar noted that contacts intensified after attacks in July that killed and injured Indian sailors. After that, India separately raised the issue of maritime security with Ukraine and Russia.

According to him, even a limited agreement on the Black Sea could make a difference, since disruptions in the supply of grain, energy and fertilizers affect countries in the Global South the most.

USM previously reported that India is looking for a replacement for Black Sea sunflower oil due to supply delays.
