Kachka: The EU has no idea about the complexity of the situation in the Ukrainian agricultural sector

Ukraine’s task is to convey to European farmers how difficult and risky the situation in the agricultural sector is.

The EU has a misconception about the structure of agriculture in Ukraine. They are sure that Ukrainian agricultural producers have infinite profitability, Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka said, Agro Portal writes.

Ukraine’s goal is to convey to European farmers that the millions of tons of grain that the EU sees in statistics are not so easily given to Ukrainian farmers. Otherwise, there will be many demands from the Europeans, for example, limiting the maximum amount of land or introducing additional environmental standards.

Now Ukraine has already held negotiations with the governments of Lithuania, Romania and Poland, which are interested in resolving prejudices against the Ukrainian agricultural sector.

Taras Kachka also called on Ukrainian farmers to take a responsible approach to the future implementation of European legislation.

In total, as of May 29, since the beginning of the 2023/24 MR, Ukraine exported 46.353 million tons of grain and leguminous crops. Of these, 4.947 million tons were shipped in May, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reported.

In terms of crops, since the beginning of the season, the following have been sent for export:

• corn — 26.215 million tons;

• wheat — 17.236 million tons; (in 2022/23 MY – 15.378 million tons);

• barley — 2.375 million tons; (2.627 million tons);

• rye — 1.5 thousand tons.
