Kernel warned about the increase in the cost of storing grain at its own elevators

Due to the port shutdown, Kernel is preparing new conditions for grain storage, which will come into effect in September.

This is reported by Elevatorist with reference to the head of the Kernel storage department, Serhiy Shcherban.

According to him, energy tariffs have increased by approximately 20% compared to the previous year. The company has increased the general tariff for elevators by the same amount. The increase in the payroll and other expenses was not included in the new tariffs. Thus, the increase in the cost of services is associated only with the increase in the price of energy.

Due to the logistical crisis and the port shutdown, the company offers customers two options for grain that has already been stored.

Customers can remove grain during September, and then the storage conditions will remain unchanged. If this does not happen, the cost of storage may increase by approximately 70%. This is due to the need to move grain to polymer sleeves, which significantly increases the cost of storage.

Kernel noted that the new conditions are not being implemented all at once. The company fulfills previously made commitments and discusses possible scenarios with customers in advance.

“If customers export this volume by September 1, everything will remain unchanged. Ultimately, the market will regulate the situation itself: someone will find an opportunity to export grain, someone will not,” explained Serhiy Shcherban.
