Last year, cargo turnover at ports on the Danube decreased by almost half

Ukrainian ports on the Danube reduced cargo transshipment by 45.9% in 2024.
In 2024, Danube ports reduced cargo transshipment by 45.9% — 17.3 million tons. However, this is three times more than the pre-war cargo turnover, writes GMC Center.
The dynamics of the drop in transshipment in Danube ports last year compared to 2023 was as follows: Izmail – by 33.9%, to 13.4 million tons; Reni – by 66%, to 3.4 million tons; Ust-Dunaysk – by 69.6%, to 0.5 million tons.
“Today, only cargoes that can be loaded through the port of Izmail for export remain in the Danube region. They are loaded onto barges with a carrying capacity of up to 10 thousand tons. This fleet serves short distances in the direction of the Black Sea and Mediterranean ports. There is no longer any talk of sending large batches of agricultural products to Constanta by the river fleet, where they were previously reloaded onto large vessels and sent to the countries of Southeast Asia,” said Irina Kosse, a senior research fellow at the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting. We will remind that in 2023, cargo turnover through the ports of the Danube reached a record high – over 29 million tons.
