Macron proposes EU impose a complete ban on maritime services for Russian tankers

The French President called on the European Union to quickly adopt the 20th package of sanctions, introduce a “complete ban on maritime services” for Russian oil exports, and step up the fight against the so-called “shadow fleet.”

French President Emmanuel Macron said this in a joint statement with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Ukrinform reports.

“We need to make progress on the 20th package of European Union sanctions, and discussions will take place in the coming days. We must work on a complete ban on maritime services for Russian oil exports, strengthen our joint efforts against what is called the Russian shadow fleet, with the highest possible level of coordination,” Macron said.

He also added that he was determined to “resolutely implement the European Union’s 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine.”

“€60 billion will be used to finance the supply of military equipment and the strengthening of our industrial and defense bases, with priority given to Ukrainian and European industries,” Macron said.

Earlier, USM reported that Ukraine had imposed new sanctions against the captains of tankers carrying Rosneft.
