Moldova can also ban the import of Ukrainian grain
The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Moldova is considering the possibility of banning grain imports from Ukraine. The Ministry of Agriculture of Moldova is discussing the possibility of banning the import of Ukrainian grain. Currently, the state structure is developing “measures that will be coordinated with the national authorities and EU bodies.” Officials are prompted to make such a decision by pressure from agrarians, Radio Svoboda writes.According to representatives of the trade union Forța Fermierilor, the import of Ukrainian agricultural products can allegedly lead to the bankruptcy of farmers. Yes, local wheat became cheaper by 2 lei (4.14 hryvnias) per kilogram. At the same time, the trade union threatens farmers with protests after the completion of sowing operations, if the authorities do not make an appropriate decision.
We will remind, earlier the governments of Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria banned the import of Ukrainian agricultural products to their countries. This decision is due to the fact that cheap grain from Ukraine is quickly capturing European markets and displacing local producers. In response, the European Commission promised to allocate 100 million euros to the affected countries in exchange for the lifting of restrictions.
In general, all Ukrainian exports to Moldova in 2022 amounted to 619 million dollars. For comparison, Ukraine sent $2.2 billion worth of products to neighboring Romania.
