The Norwegian Trade Union has criticized the practice of cooperation between Norwegian shipowners and Russian crews.
This was reported by the Trade Union of Maritime Transport Workers of Ukraine (MTWTU).
Thus, despite the sanctions imposed against Russia due to its aggression against Ukraine, some European companies and workers in the maritime industry continue to cooperate with the aggressor state.
In particular, the head of the Norwegian trade union of maritime officers and president of the International Federation of Sea Captains’ Associations (IFSMA) Hans Sande stated that such a practice is unacceptable.
“We are very concerned about the information that Norwegian shipowners continue to work for the Russian state, despite the current sanctions regime. The operation of vessels under the Norwegian flag, on which Russian crews work, is not only unethical, but also a direct disgrace for Norway,” Hans Sande emphasized.
He noted that one example of such cooperation is the ship “Silver Dania”, which sails under the Norwegian flag and belongs to the Silver Sea company, registered in Bergen, but all 11 crew members are citizens of the Russian Federation.
“We must defend our values and take a clear position against such practices. It is time to put pressure on both the shipowners themselves and the authorities to stop this,” the head of the Norwegian trade union emphasized.
As previously reported by USM, Finland allowed the departure of a sailor from the “Eagle S” vessel, who could have damaged underwater cables.
