Office of the President: New EU sanctions package against Russia should specifically cover the “shadow fleet”

The Office of the President emphasized that the 18th package of EU sanctions against the Russian Federation should cover the energy sector, the so-called “shadow fleet” and the banking sector.
This was discussed during a briefing for ambassadors of the Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8), the ress service of the Office of the President reports.
The department noted that special attention was paid to diplomatic work to achieve peace.
“Deputy Head of the Office of the President Igor Zhovkva emphasized that there should be joint pressure from partners on Russia to establish a just and sustainable peace. In particular, it was about sanctions policy. Thus, the 18th package of EU sanctions should be as effective as possible and cover primarily the energy sector, the shadow fleet and the banking sector,” the report says.
The participants of the briefing also discussed Ukraine’s path to EU membership.
In addition, the parties coordinated positions ahead of the Bucharest Nine summit, which will take place next week in Vilnius.
As a reminder, on May 20, the EU approved the 17th package of sanctions against Russia, which affects almost 200 vessels of the shadow fleet.
