Over 90% of export grain is transported towards the ports of Great Odesa

Currently, 92% of grain for export is transported to the ports of Great Odesa, and approximately 2% of grain goes to the western borders.

This was noted by Valery Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation Technology and Commercial Work of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, on the form “Own Elevator”.

“Western border crossings are not involved and there is no demand for them from exporters. Instead, ports are the most effective and cheapest way to export grain,” Valery Tkachev clarified.

The expert also noted that this year it is planned to ship 48-51 million tons of grain and oilseeds in the export direction. About 60-65% of grain that goes to the ports is transported by rail and 30-35% by road.

“Last year, a record volume was transported by rail – almost 39 million tons, of which 34 million tons were for export. “In 11 months of 2025, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 29 million tons, of which 26 million tons were exported,” Tkachev noted.

Earlier it became known that Ukrzaliznytsia updated the speed standards for transportation to ports for 2026.
