Russia calls France’s seizure of shadow fleet tanker “piracy”

The Russian Embassy in France said that the detention of the DF Peak tanker, which Paris links to the Russian “shadow fleet”, allegedly violates international law.

This was reported by Reuters with reference to Russian media.

French President Emmanuel Macron previously said that the French Navy had intercepted and boarded the DF Peak about 450 nautical miles south of Reunion Island.

According to Macron, the tanker is suspected of using a false flag and participating in illegal fuel transportation as part of the Russian “shadow fleet”.

The Russian Embassy called the detention of the vessel “piracy” and said that they were trying to find out whether there were Russian citizens among the crew members.

The diplomatic mission also claims that the French side did not notify Russia about the detention of the tanker.

USM previously reported that the French Navy had detained a tanker belonging to the Russian “shadow fleet” in the Indian Ocean.
