Russia carried out 1,195 attacks on Ukrainian railways last year, says Ministry of Development

In 2025, Russia carried out more attacks on Ukrainian railway infrastructure than in 2023–2024 combined.
This was reported by Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories Oleksiy Balesta in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to Balesta, direct losses to the industry during this period are estimated at hundreds of billions of hryvnias and are not fixed, since the amount grows daily.
“Strikes on infrastructure directly affect both freight and passenger traffic. Due to the intensification of Russian attacks, and recently bad weather, train delays have become more frequent. But even in such conditions, thanks to the titanic work of railway workers, the infrastructure is being repaired as quickly as possible,” Oleksiy Balesta noted.
In total, about 130 thousand damaged and destroyed railway infrastructure facilities have been recorded, including tracks, stations, depots, etc. Some of them are subject to quick repair, others require long-term restoration, and some cannot be restored, since the infrastructure must be built virtually from scratch. In total, the Russians carried out 1,195 attacks in 2025 alone.
Currently, the Ministry of Development and Trade is working on strengthening the engineering protection of critical railway facilities.
Earlier it became known that Ukrzaliznytsia transported a record amount of grain in 2025.
