Russia handed over part of the Sea of Azov to the military for 20 years


The Russian government handed over part of the Sea of Azov to a military unit from Kerch for 20 years.

The government ordered to hand over part of the Sea of Azov to the military unit based in Kerch, Krym.Realii reports.

“To provide military unit 6942 with separate water use for 20 years, a part of the water area of the Sea of Azov <…> to ensure the defense of the country and the security of the state,” the document says.

According to the document, the provided part of the sea with an area of 0.018 sq. km will be closed for fishing.

The 115th Special Forces Brigade of the Roshvard is based on the territory of Military Unit 6942 (it includes the 39th Marine Unit of the Roshvard). At the same address of the military unit – Kirova 54 – the 144th special motorized regiment of the Russian Guard is also stationed.

Earlier, USM reported that the Russian State Duma is going to consider a draft law according to which the Sea of Azov should be considered internal waters of Russia.
