Russia has set a record for transporting oil through the Arctic

Russia transported a record amount of oil through the Northern Sea Route — at least 10.7 million barrels.

This year, Russia transported record volumes of oil through the Northern Sea Route (“Sevmorput”), and this indicator may grow even more, Bloomberg reports.

According to the publication, at least 15 tankers transported about 10.7 million barrels of crude oil. This is higher than last year, when 14 vessels transported 10.5 million barrels.

Bloomberg notes that the 2024 shipping season is still underway, and shipments are forecast to reach more than 14.4 million barrels if weather conditions allow Russia to make additional flights before the cold weather sets in.

USM previously reported that Russia is creating a fleet to export gas to the Arctic LNG 2 project.
