Russia is trying to quickly build up its fleet before the oil embargo
The aggressor country began to actively rebuild the global tanker fleet before the EU ban on the sale of russian oil.
We will remind that from December 5, owners of tankers flying the flags of EU countries will no longer be able to transport russian raw oil. Energy can be sold only below the upper price agreed by the European Union, reports Splash 24/7.
Currently, russia does not have a sufficient number of fleets, so exporters spend significant sums on the purchase and repair of already outdated ships.
Russian federation is facing a deficit of almost 70 Aframaxes and 35 Suezmaxes. Currently, the specialized russian fleet consists of 50 vessels of the Aframax/LR2 type and 10 vessels of the Suezmax type, according to Braemar analysts. In addition, an unnamed buyer recently acquired 35 Aframax/LR2 vessels, 20 Suezmax vessels and 15 VLCCs over 15 years old, all of which are likely to become part of russia’s “shadow fleet”. According to analysts, this large purchase of tankers by russia became one of the reasons for the record high prices for tankers.
Previously, USM wrote that the cost of old tankers is increasing due to the sanctions against russian federation.
