Russia releases “Green Admire” tanker detained in Baltic Sea

The ship continued on its way to Rotterdam after a brief stop in Russian waters.

The Russians have released the detained oil tanker “Green Admire”, owned by a Greek shipping company and flying the flag of Liberia. This is reported by Reuters.

The ship, which is heading to the Dutch port of Rotterdam, was detained on May 18 while passing from the Estonian port of Sillamäe. The Estonian Foreign Ministry said at the time that the tanker was following an approved navigation route that partly passes through Russian territorial waters.

This route is agreed between Estonia, Russia and Finland and is used for safe shipping, although it does not entirely lie within the boundaries of one national jurisdiction.

After the incident, the Estonian Foreign Ministry announced a change in approaches to maritime logistics: from now on, traffic to the port of Sillamäe will be carried out exclusively through Estonian territorial waters in order to avoid similar situations in the future.

The day before, USM wrote that Lithuania is strengthening its fleet after Russian provocations: the country will purchase ships from Norway.
