Russia was expelled from the Danube Commission
The Russian Federation was excluded from the powers in the Danube Commission until the end of the war in favor of Ukraine.
The decision was made on March 17, at the 12th extraordinary session of the commission, in connection with the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Ukraine (Moradministration) reports.
Representatives of the Russian Federation were suspended from work in the Danube Commission until the restoration of peace, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
Also, representatives of the Russian Federation will not be able to participate in all meetings of the Danube Commission. In addition, the Trucial States will apply to the Committee for the preparation of the revision of the Belgrade Convention (PrepCom) with a request to check whether the Russian Federation can be a member of the Danube Commission in the future, without having the banks of the Danube River.
The mandate of an employee from the Russian Federation will remain until June 30. A new employee from Russia will not be appointed until the state is suspended from work in the commission.
In addition, the commission will prepare decisions on the dismissal of all employees with Russian citizenship from the Secretariat of the Danube Commission.
