Russian nuclear-powered submarines fired shots near Norway

Russian multi-purpose nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation practiced firing near the sea border of Norway.

Two submarines “Severodvinsk” and “Orel” practiced firing cruise missiles at imaginary enemy landing ships, reports The Barents Observer.

The shootings were conducted as part of exercises of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation near the coast of the Kola Peninsula.

As reported in the press service of the fleet, the submarines launched “Kalibr” and “Granit” cruise missiles and “successfully hit their targets located at a distance of about 170 kilometers.”

Judging by the data of the Russian ship information warning system, the launches took place in the area north of the Rybachyi Peninsula, near the sea border with Norway.

USM previously reported that the Netherlands will allocate 41 million euros for the protection of the North Sea. Plans include the installation of additional sensors and increased use of radars and satellites to protect maritime infrastructure.
