Safety at sea: Italy will help Ukraine
As part of the Twinning project, consultations of the Shipping Administration with the Italian Coast Guard have begun.
This was announced by the head of the Shipping Administration, Yevhenii Ignatenko.
We are talking about the technical assistance project of the European Union Twinning “Institutional support of the State Service of Sea and Inland Water Transport and Shipping of Ukraine in the implementation of the EU acquis, norms and standards on safety at sea.”
“Its purpose is to ensure the fulfillment of Ukraine’s international obligations and the harmonization of legislation with EU norms in the field of port state control, flag state and coastal state, maritime education and protection of human life at sea,” said Yevhenii Ignatenko.
Thanks to the project, the Shipping Administration plans to: strengthen its capabilities in the implementation of state supervision of maritime transport safety, strengthen potential in the field of training and certification of seafarers, ensure the appropriate level of protection of human life in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas in the maritime search and rescue zone of Ukraine.
“Implementation of international standards will also ensure a high level of maritime safety and training of personnel in the field of maritime education,” the official emphasizes.
The project will last 2 years and consists of two components:
• institutional support of the Shipping Administration of Ukraine in the implementation of EU norms and standards on safety at sea;
• institutional support of the Shipping Administration in the development and improvement of the search and rescue system at sea.
It should be noted that the project is implemented with the support of the Italian Coast Guard in a consortium with interested Italian institutions.
Earlier, USM reported that the Shipping Administration and MTWTUU will strengthen the protection of seafarers’ rights.
