Sea imports of diesel fuel in the southern direction collapsed several times

Since the beginning of the month, Ukrainian companies have significantly reduced the volume of sea imports of diesel fuel on the southern supply routes.

Recently, the number of tankers at the Danube terminals and the Black Sea ports of Romania and Bulgaria has decreased. According to enkorr, last week (February 13-19) importers cleared only 9.5 thousand tons of diesel fuel, which is 5.5 times less than two weeks earlier.

“There is a surplus of diesel fuel on the Ukrainian market. After the stabilization of energy supply in all regions of the country, there is a sharp drop in the volume of fuel purchases by generator owners. This is one of the factors in the reduction of purchases of imported products,” the publication notes

Due to the crowded market, the owners of the marine resource are in the most vulnerable position, as it is necessary to organize the necessary number of road transport or rail tankers to unload the volume of product from the vessel.

“Usually 72 hours are allotted for unloading a barge or tanker, after which demurrage starts to take effect, the volume of which, depending on the size of the vessel, can amount to $5-15 thousand per day. Because of this, some companies do not risk ordering transportation,” said a trader who sells fuel at one of the Danube terminals.

At the same time, market participants note that freight rates for tankers are not falling, as demand for transport services remains high in the rest of the Black Sea region.
