Since the beginning of the Ukrainian sea corridor, over 137 million tons of cargo have been transported

The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure shared the results of the work of the Ukrainian maritime corridor, through which over 5,300 vessels have passed in two years.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.

“After the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine first created a “grain corridor” with the support of the UN and Turkey. However, Russia unilaterally withdrew from the previous agreement: it began to block vessels and shell seaports. Therefore, two years ago, an alternative route was opened – the Ukrainian corridor. Its work became possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine, in particular the Defense Intelligence and the defenders of Zmiiniy Island,” the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure reminded.

During the operation of the Ukrainian corridor, over 137 million tons of cargo were transported by sea on board over 5,300 vessels. Of these, over 84 million tons are products grown by Ukrainian farmers.

The ministry also noted that thanks to the sea corridor, Ukrainian products and goods enter the markets of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, in total in 54 countries of the world.

“Cargo transportation by sea is taking place despite constant shelling by Russia of critical infrastructure. Over the past two years of the Ukrainian corridor’s operation, Russian attacks have damaged or partially destroyed 442 port infrastructure facilities and 38 civilian vessels. Also, 118 civilians were injured or killed,” the department noted.

Earlier it became known that the Ministry of Development and the concessionaire of the Kherson port are looking for joint solutions for its restoration.
