The EU banned the import of Russian diamonds
An embargo on the direct import of Russian diamonds to EU countries has come into effect.
According to the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions, a ban on the import of diamonds from the Russian Federation to European countries came into force on January 1. Later in 2024, the EU will introduce an embargo on Russian diamonds processed in third countries, DW reports.
According to the estimates of experts from the AFP agency, Russia earns between 3.7 and 4.6 million euros from the sale of diamonds every year.
Also, the 12th package of sanctions strengthens control over compliance with the “price ceiling” on Rosneft’s exports to third countries. At the same time, European companies are required to provide evidence that they comply with price restrictions on oil from Russia.
At the same time, the list of goods subject to additional restrictions for export to Russia has been increased. In particular, lithium batteries, thermostats and a wide list of chemical products fall under the ban.
At the same time, as part of the sanctions package, the EU extended sanctions to more than 140 individuals and companies that support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
