The EU has appointed a special representative to combat Russia’s “shadow fleet”

The High Representative of the European Union, Kaia Kallas, has appointed a special representative to coordinate efforts to combat Russia’s “shadow fleet”.
This is reported by Interfax-Ukraine.
The publication notes that Kallas made the corresponding announcement on Monday in Luxembourg, after the meeting of foreign ministers of the EU member states.
“Moscow’s shadow fleet finances Russia’s war and acts as a launching pad for hybrid attacks. Today, ministers discussed a more decisive response, including expanding the powers to board such vessels. I have also appointed a special envoy, who is now a coordinator, to collect best practices from different member states of the Union, as well as to act faster on these issues,” Kallas noted.
Kaia Kallas also noted that Europe needs “a more decisive and common approach against sanctioned vessels”.
Earlier it became known that Estonia cannot block Russian tankers, but checks the “shadow fleet”.
