The EU has banned access to its ports for ships carrying Russian cargo
The countries of the European Union agreed on a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In particular, ships with Russian cargo are now prohibited from entering EU ports.
On June 21, EU ambassadors agreed on the 11th package of sanctions against Russia. The package contains measures aimed at countering the circumvention of sanctions, the повідомленні message of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU states.
“This will deal an additional blow to Putin’s war machine by tightening export restrictions targeting organizations that support the Kremlin,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen commented.
As part of the new package, 71 individuals and 33 organizations will be added to the sanctions lists.
In addition, the new sanctions provide for a ban on the transit of a number of goods and technologies that are necessary for the military sector of the Russian Federation. The EU has also banned access to its ports for ships that can carry cargo of Russian origin, Reuters reports.
Previously, USM reported that the Russians increased the volume of oil transportation by the “shadow” fleet by 225%. In the first quarter of 2023, at least 215 tankers with a total deadweight of 9.31 million tons were involved in 524 “shadow” ship-to-ship operations.
In May, EU countries discussed the details of the 11th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. The states expressed their support for EU efforts aimed at closing “loopholes” in sanctions against the Russian Federation, which allow the terrorist country to export oil to Europe.
