The EU has increased the customs duty for agricultural products from the Russian Federation and Belarus
Also, agricultural products of Russian and Belarusian origin will be deprived of access to tariff quotas of the European Union.
On May 30, the European Council approved a resolution on the collection of additional duties on agricultural products imported from Russia and Belarus. This is stated in the press release of the Council of the EU.
The decree increases duties on grains, oilseeds and processed products, as well as on granulated pulp and dried peas. Thus, the duty will reach such a level that it will effectively stop the import of these products. In addition, these goods will be deprived of access to EU tariff quotas.
“The new tariffs established today are aimed at practically stopping grain imports from Russia and Belarus to the EU,” commented the Minister of Finance of Belgium, Vincent van Peteghem. — Thus, these measures will prevent destabilization of the EU grain market, stop Russian exports of illegally appropriated grain produced on the territory of Ukraine, and prevent Russia from using revenues from exports to the EU to finance its aggressive war against Ukraine. This is another way in which the EU demonstrates stable support for Ukraine.”
The currently implemented measures will not affect the transit of the products of the aggressor countries through the EU to third countries.
We will remind you that the European Commission has already allowed to raise the tariffs for the import of agricultural products from the Russian Federation in March 2024. At the time, these measures were intended to prevent destabilization of the EU market.
