The EU imposed sanctions against 27 ships of the “shadow fleet”

For the first time, the European Union introduced sanctions against the Russian “shadow fleet” and ships transporting stolen Ukrainian grain.

The Council of Ministers of the EU adopted the 14th package of sanctions against Russia, which provides for measures against the “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation, reports “Ukrinform”.

“For the first time, the EU adopted measures aimed at individual vessels involved in the Russian war against Ukraine, which are subject to a ban on access to ports or provision of services. These vessels can be designated as such for a variety of reasons, such as transporting military equipment for Russia, transporting stolen Ukrainian grain, supporting the development of the Russian energy sector, for example, by transporting LNG components or participating in LNG transshipment,” the European Council said in a statement.

The restrictions will also apply to the tankers of the “shadow fleet” of Russia, which are involved in the circumvention of sanctions regarding the maximum price for Russian oil. 27 vessels were subject to these sanctions.

Earlier, USM reported that the EU Council adopted the 14th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In particular, the EU will ban transshipment services of Russian LNG on the territory of European countries for the purpose of re-export to other countries. This applies to both ship-to-shore and ship-to-ship operations.
