The EU is switching to American energy resources: von der Leyen announced the rejection of Russian fuel

The European Union has agreed with the United States on large-scale purchases of LNG, oil and nuclear fuel to reduce dependence on Russia.
The European Union will gradually abandon Russian energy resources in favor of American ones as part of a new trade agreement with the United States. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after a meeting with US President Donald Trump, Ukrinform reports.
“Purchasing US energy products will diversify our sources of supply and strengthen Europe’s energy security. We will replace Russian gas and oil with large volumes of American LNG, oil and nuclear fuel,” von der Leyen stressed.
She acknowledged that some Russian energy carriers still enter the European market, but the EU is determined to completely abandon them.
“We don’t want this anymore. We want to get rid of Russian fossil fuels, so we welcome more affordable and higher-quality liquefied natural gas from the United States,” the European Commission President emphasized.
The transition to a new energy model is expected to take two to three years.
Following the talks in Scotland, von der Leyen and Trump also agreed on a new format for trade relations between the EU and the US. In particular, a single tariff of 15% is envisaged for a wide range of European goods exported to the US market.
USM also previously reported that a Hungarian company is considering access to the port of Odesa in order to gradually abandon Russian oil.
