The EU offers five countries 100 million euros in exchange for removing import restrictions on Ukraine

On Wednesday, the European Commission detailed the offer of financial support for five EU states – Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. In exchange, the Commission proposes to remove unilateral import restrictions on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine.

The support involves the allocation of 100 million euros from the EU’s agricultural reserve to support farmers who produce grain and oil crops in five EU member states, reports “European Truth” with reference to the message of the director general of the European Commission for the development of agriculture.

Among other things, the European Commission proposes to allocate: Bulgaria – 9.77 million euros, Hungary – 15.93 million euros, Poland – 39.33 million euros, Romania – 29.73 million euros, Slovakia – 5.24 million euros.

Countries can supplement the amount with national funds by a maximum of 200%. Thus, total financial assistance to affected farmers will amount to 300 million euros. It is assumed that payments will be made by September 30.

It is expected that the five EU states will approve the support package at the next meeting of the special committee on common organization of agricultural markets. After that, the decision will be published in the Official Journal of the EU, and it will enter into force the day after publication.

We will remind you that the European Commission officially announced the introduction of “exceptional and temporary” precautionary measures against imports from Ukraine. The measures limit the import of certain agricultural products of Ukrainian production to the five EU countries bordering Ukraine
