The first Ukrainian Danube Shipping barge caravan set sail for the middle Danube

A barge caravan left Izmail — the first within the framework of the restoration of Ukrainian Danube Shipping  work on the Middle Danube.

On the morning of Thursday, October 20, the steamship “Captain Zhidkov” departed from Izmail. The caravan consists of five barges with a cargo of agglomerate and coal, reports the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company.

The port of destination is Smederevo (Serbia). The estimated time of arrival at the port is in 10-12 days, depending on the hydro-navigation situation on the Danube.

“The return to the Middle Danube is accompanied by the technical modernization of vessels. Systems for controlling fuel consumption, video surveillance, and online dispatching are being installed. The crews passed a knowledge test and confirmed their qualifications. The line was launched as part of the ongoing large contract for the delivery of Ukrainian iron ore raw materials for metallurgical production in Serbia,” the company said.

As previously reported by USM, it is planned that in the reverse direction, the caravans will deliver grain to Constanta.
