The icebreaker “Admiral Makarov” was on fire in St. Petersburg

The fire broke out in the hold of the ship, which is undergoing repairs at the Kronstadt Shipyard. The fire was extinguished for four hours.

On September 5, a fire broke out on the icebreaker Admiral Makarov in St. Petersburg. This was reported by the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

The report of the fire was received at 14:20 from Petrovskaya Street, 2 in the Kronstadt district. Structures on an area of ​​80 square meters were burning in the ship’s hold. The fire probably started in the tiller compartment, where the steering control elements are located.

52 rescuers and 10 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire. At 16:31, the fire was localized and the open fire was extinguished, but it took about two more hours to completely eliminate it – the fire was extinguished at 18:30. There is no information about the victims, the cause of the fire is not named.

Reference. Admiral Makarov is a linear diesel-electric icebreaker of the R-1039 project, built in 1975 at the Helsinki shipyard. The ship operated in the Far East and participated in several rescue operations. In November 2025, the icebreaker was transferred to the North-West Basin Branch. Currently, the ship is undergoing repairs to the main engines, which were planned to be completed by the end of 2026.
