The number of russian ship calls to the EU ports has decreased
The calls of russian vessels to EU ports decreased tenfold in the third quarter, compared to the corresponding period last year, and to US and UK ports completely stopped six months ago.
In the third quarter, the number of calls by russian-flagged vessels to EU ports was 107, compared to 1,042 for the same period in 2021. This is reported by the analytical company Lloyd’s List Intelligence.
We will remind you that on March 1, Great Britain and Canada banned russian-flagged vessels from entering their ports, and the United States did the same on April 28. Also in April, as part of the fifth package of sanctions, EU countries joined the maritime embargo.
On the other hand, the number of calls by Russian ships to the ports of countries “friendly” to the russian Federation is increasing. Thus, they increased by 44.6% to the ports of Turkey, to 1,116, and to the ports of China by 17%, to 391 calls.
Also, ships with humanitarian and pharmaceutical cargoes are still allowed to enter European ports. Also, the ban does not apply to the transshipment of titanium, aluminum, copper, nickel, palladium, iron ore, a number of chemical and metallurgical products, as well as energy cargo.
Russian tankers can enter EU ports on the condition of ensuring short-term agreements concluded by June 4, as well as for the delivery of non-russian oil and oil products. But from December 5, the embargo on oil also comes into force.
USM recently wrote that before the EU ban on the sale of oil, russia is trying to quickly increase its tanker fleet .
