The russians have found a way to circumvent oil sanctions
Oil and gas company “Lukoil” found an opportunity to circumvent sanctions on russian oil. For this purpose, it uses its capacities in Sicily.
The second largest russian oil and gas giant Lukoil found a loophole in the sanctions legislation. The company supplies russian oil to the United States, “turning it into foreign products.” For this purpose, the russians are using an oil refinery in Sicily as a transshipment point, reports Ukrinform with reference to The Wall Street Journal.
More than 90% of the raw materials processed by Sicily come from russia, but the final products are already considered Italian and can be freely exported. Since March, the plant has shipped 5 million barrels of petroleum products to the United States.
Russian oil is transported to Sicily by tankers of the Sovcomflot company, which is under US sanctions, as confirmed by numerous satellite images.
It is noteworthy that Lukoil, unlike Gazprom, was not included in the American sanctions lists, and it still sells its products in 11 states.
