The Shipping Administration will certify sailors of inland navigation vessels

A new order regarding the certification of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine was signed on March 29.

The document approves the Regulation on assignment and confirmation of qualifications of crew members of inland navigation vessels, reports the head of the Shipping Administration, Yevhenii Ignatenko.

The regulation establishes:

• the procedure for maintaining the Register of qualification certificates of deck crew members and service records, other qualification documents of crew members of Ukrainian inland waterway vessels, as well as special permits of captains (masters) and access to the information it contains;

• list of members of the ship’s deck team;

• the procedure for assigning qualifications taking into account the classification of sea and inland waterways;

• the procedure for issuing, renewing, exchanging, suspending and canceling qualification documents of crew members of inland navigation vessels, as well as special permits of captains (masters), their form and measures to prevent forgery of such documents;

• requirements regarding the age, professional competence, administrative compliance, state of health and sailing time of the crew members of the inland navigation vessel;

• the validity period of the qualification documents of the ship’s deck crew members; requirements for members of the state qualification commission.

The provision applies to persons participating in the operation of the following categories of inland navigation vessels:

• river vessels or vessels of mixed navigation with a length of 20 meters or more or for which the product of length, width and draft is a volume of 100 cubic meters or more;

• floating equipment;

• passenger ships;

• vessels of the technical fleet;

• tugs and pushers designed for:

• towing, canting or pushing ships and ship movements;

• self-propelled ferries.
