The sunken sanctioned tanker is still aground off the coast of Bulgaria

Bulgaria has been unable to send a rescue operation to the Kairos tanker for several days due to bad weather, but there is currently no risk of pollution.

This was reported by USM, citing a statement by the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources to local media.

It is noted that the ministry’s environmentalists have deployed measuring devices and taken water samples near the accident. The measurements are still ongoing, but, according to preliminary data, there is no pollution.

In the event of any deviations from the norm or pollution, the ministry promised to take “further measures” and inform the public. Currently, environmentalists continue regular monitoring in Bulgarian waters.

The government’s statement also indicates that the crew, consisting of about ten men, is on board.

The Kairos tanker, which was likely shot down by a Ukrainian naval drone off the coast of Turkey, ran aground on December 5 near the city of Ahtopol. The Bulgarian government attempted to send a helicopter and a boat to rescue the crew, but the operation was thwarted by a storm.

USM previously reported that a sanctioned tanker that was hit near Turkey ran aground near Bulgaria.
