The UAE has banned the passage of some tankers that can carry Rosneft
The United Arab Emirates has banned tankers from Cameroon, which may carry Russian oil, from entering its waters.
The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE has banned Cameroonian-flagged vessels from entering the country’s waters. First of all, the decision concerns tankers that can transport oil subject to sanctions, according to Bloomberg.
For the most part, merchant vessels are registered under the flag of Panama and the Marshall Islands, which maintain high standards of safety in the shipping industry.
However, after the start of shadow oil transportation operations, Russia registered part of the ships under the Cameroon flag.
In the middle of last year, Cameroon was recognized as a country with a high risk of danger. That is, vessels under this flag will not undergo a security check during their entry into ports.
The number of tankers registered under the Cameroon flag is small, but most of them entered Russian ports last year. 11 out of 14 tankers under the Cameroon flag, which are capable of transporting oil from Russian ports, did so during the last year. This number of vessels accounts for less than 1% of total oil supplies from Russia.
