The USA proposes to increase Ukrainian exports through the Danube and is considering military protection of ships
The United States is negotiating with Turkey, Ukraine and several of its neighbors to expand the transportation of Ukrainian grain through the Danube.
The plan proposed by the USA envisages increasing the export of Ukrainian grain from the ports on the Danube to 4 million tons per month by October, reports “European Truth” with the reference to The Wall Street Journal.
Most of the grain will be sent down the Danube and across the Black Sea to the nearest Romanian ports. From there, the grains will be transported to their destinations.
This route is slower and more expensive, but it can become an alternative to the “grain corridor” that Russia has blocked.
The process of planning alternative export routes shows that the US, Ukraine and European countries are preparing for the fact that Russia may not return to the Grain Agreement at a time when Ukraine will have to ship summer and autumn crops.
According to the interlocutor of the publication, the USA is considering all possible options, including military ones, to protect ships bound for Ukrainian Danube ports. However, the informant refused to give details.
Meanwhile, Turkey and the UN are trying to persuade the terrorist country to return to the agreement.
Previously, USM reported that Ukrainian ports on the Danube have increased the volume of transshipment several times since they became a “lifeline” for Ukrainian exports in the conditions of Russia’s blockade of sea ports.
In May, the ports of the Danube region processed more than 3 million tons of cargo, which is an absolute record for them. In particular, since the beginning of the year, the Port of Izmail has processed more than 9 million tons of cargo. In general, this year Ukraine plans to process at least 20 million tons through the Danube.
