They learned to eliminate chemical pollution in the Odesa CSP

Yesterday, on the territory of the State Enterprise “Odesa Commercial Sea Port”, the exercises on elimination of chemical hazard were carried out.
The marine reconnaissance of the port fleet based on the Novator tugboat, the chemical reconnaissance group of the special forces detachment of the State Emergency Service, and the fire detachment of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority” were involved in the exercises.
The purpose of the exercises is to work out coordinated actions in the elimination of chemical pollution or an accident at the Port Refrigerator PJSC.
According to the exercise script, the dispatcher of the port fleet found out that an unknown chemical substance was released into the atmosphere on the vessel, which was in the roads during the repair, and its cloud was moving towards berths №27-28, where the vessels of the enterprise were based. A naval reconnaissance tug “Novator” headed for the cloud movement zone, but due to the high wind speed, a chemical reconnaissance group was called for help.
The group confirmed the fact of ammonia pollution using the special devices, after which water walls were launched on the vessels of the port fleet located in the affected area and fire monitors were sprayed onto the mooring line. A fire detachment was also involved for cloud degasification.
