Three seafarers died on GLOBAL LAKE chemical carrier
Three crew members of the GLOBAL LAKE tanker perished in an accident in the cargo tank of the vessel. Two seafarers were Turkish citizens, one was Georgian.
One of the sailors was cleaning the vessel’s cargo tank and ended up in an anoxia pit, where there was no oxygen, Fleetmon said. The captain and boatswain tried to rescue him, but fell into the tank.
The victims were immediately taken to the deck and doctors were called. The seafarers received first aid, but they could not be saved – the captain, boatswain and sailor died.
The operator of the vessel, the Istanbul company Akar Deniz Taşımacılık, reported that there were four affected sailors: another sailor survived, he was taken to the hospital by helicopter.
The tanker docked in Cartagena on the morning of August 26th. An investigation into the causes of the incident is underway.
