Three times more expensive: seized Russian tanker sold at auction in Ukraine

The National Agency for Tracing and Asset Management (ARMA) sold the “Nika Spirit” vessel.

Four participants competed for the right to purchase this asset at the Prozorro.Sales auction, ARMA reports.

The arrested Russian vessel, the starting price of which was UAH 2.4 million, was sold for UAH 6.4 million.

At the same time, the report of an independent appraiser stated that the vessel was 80% worn out, and its restoration requires at least UAH 20 million in investments.

ARMA noted that they secured its sale for almost three times the estimated value.

ARMA Head Olena Duma noted that this case is an example of how the sale of arrested vessels can directly replenish the state budget of Ukraine.

“Currently, ARMA is managing 16 arrested vessels. And our principled position is that such assets should be transferred to ARMA precisely for sale, and not for management,” Olena Duma emphasized.

Recall that the tanker “Nika Spirit”, formerly known as Neyma, was detained on July 24, 2019 in the port of Izmail. According to Equasis, it was identified as a vessel that blocked the Kerch Strait in November 2018. Then, Russian border guards seized Ukrainian warships with 24 crew members at gunpoint.Earlier, USM reported that in November 2024, the Dniprovskyi District Court of Kyiv allowed the transfer of the arrested Russian tanker “Nika Spirit” for sale
