Traffic on the Bosphorus was temporarily suspended due to an accident on the bulk carrier “Ere M”, which was coming from Russia.

Bulk carrier loses control and drifts toward shore. Traffic in the Bosphorus has been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.

The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, December 30, off the coast of Besiktas, Turkey, Marinetraffic News reports.

The Liberian-flagged bulk carrier “Ere M” experienced a rudder failure while passing through the Bosphorus Strait.

“The bulk carrier lost control and drifted toward the shore, stopping just a few meters from the pier in the Besiktas area, causing concern among local residents. The vessel then began to move backward before control was restored,” the report said.

The crew of the “Ere M” managed to fix the rudder failure. Tugs escorted the vessel to the Ahirkepa anchorage, where it was safely moored.

Vessel traffic in the Bosphorus, which was temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure, resumed normal operations after the vessel was moored.

Reference: The “Ere M” is a 2008-built vessel, measuring 190 meters in length and 32.26 meters in width. At the time of the incident, the vessel was en route from Novorossiysk, Russia, to Hatay, Turkey.
