Trump imposes tariffs against Ukraine and other countries: Russia is not on the list

The US President has signed an executive order imposing reciprocal tariffs on imports “from all countries” in an effort to protect American industry.
US President Donald Trump announced on April 2 the introduction of new tariffs on imported goods from around the world. Interfax-Ukraine reports.
The base rate of the tariff will be 10% for most countries, including the UK, Brazil, Australia, Turkey and Ukraine. For the EU countries, the rate will be 20%, and for China – 34%.
Trump explained this step by “desire for reciprocity” in trade relations: “They do it to us, and we do it to them. Very simple. It couldn’t be simpler.”
Concluding his speech, Trump said that these measures would contribute to the return of the “golden age of America”, ensuring the creation of new jobs and strengthening domestic industry.
“We will expand our domestic industrial base, we will open foreign markets and break down foreign trade barriers,” the US president said.
This move has raised concerns among the United States’ international partners, who are considering the possibility of introducing countermeasures in response to the new tariffs. In particular, the European Union has expressed concern about the impact of such duties on the economy and the possibility of escalating the trade conflict.
Russia, however, was not on the list of countries on which duties were imposed. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant explained that the United States allegedly does not trade with Russia and Belarus because they are under sanctions.
However, the Office of the US Trade Representative found in 2024 that the total volume of trade between the United States and the Russian Federation was about $ 3.5 billion. At the same time, imports of goods from Russia to the United States amounted to $ 3 billion.
USM recently wrote that Indian refiners are looking for new suppliers of raw materials after Trump’s statement about the possible imposition of secondary duties against Rosneft buyers.
