Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania are planning to demine the Black Sea together

Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria are planning to join forces to clear mines that have fallen into the Black Sea as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

The countries have held closed-door talks and are still working out the details, but could create such a unit as soon as next month. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing two unnamed officials.

It is noted that the new force must be completely peaceful and will not put any new NATO ships to sea. One of the goals of the mission is to show that these three countries are capable of solving the problem on their own.

“The demining operation is not related to NATO activities, and this joint maritime demining force will be the first major joint effort by the Allies in the Black Sea since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion,” writes Bloomberg.
