Turkey increases fees for passage through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits

Starting next month, Turkey will increase the cost of passage for ships through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits.

This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Abdulkadir Uraloglu, reports Ukrinform.

According to him, starting July 1, the value of the “golden franc”, which is used to calculate the fees charged to ships passing through the Turkish straits without stopping, will increase by 15% – to $5.83 per ton of cargo.

Uraloglu noted that the value of the “golden franc”, which remained unchanged at $0.8 for 39 years until 2022, is now reviewed annually. Payments for the provision of other services will also be increased.

Recall that in 2023, the cost of passage was raised by 8.8%, and in 2024, the cost of passage for ships was increased by 14.7%.
