UDS blocked another fuel theft scheme

The Security Department of “Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company” discovered and blocked another corruption scheme, through which fuel thefts were organized for a long time.

“Even under the old leadership of the UDS, the organizers of the scheme had unjustifiably inflated the norms of fuel consumption for port operations. A certain excess of fuel began to accumulate on the tugboats. Captains used “saved” fuel for “left” operations without entering it into the ship’s logbook. “Hundreds of such operations were detected in just one of the Danube ports,” the UDS press service notes.

The “proceeds” were distributed between the organizers and the captains, agents, dispatchers and other employees involved in the scheme. Part of the fuel was simply drained, taken away and sold, the UDS notes.

The scheme was revealed with the help of fuel consumption control sensors and a video surveillance system. The norms turned out to be artificially inflated, in addition, the company recorded the movement of an incomprehensible fuel tank truck on the territory of the enterprise.

After an internal investigation and audit, the materials were handed over to law enforcement agencies.
