Ukraine and Estonia continue cooperation on the Maritime Sector Recovery Plan
In particular, the plan provides for financial and technical assistance aimed at restoring port infrastructure, shipbuilding and ship repair industries.
This was reported by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
Deputy Minister for Communities Development Timur Tkachenko held an online meeting with Kaupo Länerand, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Climate of the Republic of Estonia for Maritime Affairs and Water Resources.
The parties discussed the details of the Plan for the Restoration of the Maritime Sector of Ukraine, which is part of the initiative launched within the framework of the Bilateral Security Agreement between Ukraine and Estonia.
The agreement, signed earlier, identified the restoration of Ukraine’s strategic infrastructure as one of the key areas of cooperation between the two states. Within its framework, the UA Maritime Recovery Plan aims not only to support Ukraine’s economy, but also to help strengthen its defense capabilities, especially in wartime conditions.
“The plan provides for financial and technical assistance aimed at restoring port infrastructure, shipbuilding and ship repair industries, modernizing the merchant fleet, providing equipment and vessels,” the report says.
Particular emphasis is placed on the introduction of the latest technologies, organizing training programs and exchanging experience between Ukrainian and Estonian specialists.
The ministry noted that thanks to the introduction of innovative approaches and the integration of best international practices, the plan provides for measures that can be implemented even in difficult conditions. This will allow not only to quickly restore critical infrastructure, but also to strengthen the resilience of the maritime industry to external threats.
As previously reported by USM, in December this year, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated 50 million euros of budget support from the European Union for the repair and improvement of port infrastructure.
