Ukraine and Moldova are working on new export routes bypassing the Black Sea

Ukraine and Moldova have agreed to develop alternative logistics routes, increase the capacity of the border and reduce the costs of transit of Ukrainian cargo.

This was announced by the Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport of Ukraine Mykola Kalashnyk following a conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Vladimir Bolea.

According to Kalashnyk, due to Russian attacks on transport infrastructure and security risks in the Black Sea, Ukraine needs to create backup routes for continuous export and import.

Separately, the parties agreed to work on solutions that will make the transit of Ukrainian cargo through Moldova cheaper and more competitive. This also includes the development of railway connections and the modernization of border infrastructure.

During the negotiations, the construction of a bridge across the Dniester between Yampol and Koseuts was discussed. The project involves the opening of a new international automobile checkpoint between Ukraine and Moldova.

The parties will also work on reducing travel time along the 7.7-kilometer transit section of the road in the Palanka area.

Kalashnik and Bolya agreed to hold a separate working meeting to work out practical steps regarding joint infrastructure and logistics projects.
