Ukraine can supply agricultural products to Syria instead of Russia
Ukraine is ready to supply food to Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, said Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Vitaly Koval.
The minister said this in a comment to Reuters.
“Where it is difficult, we must be with our food. We are open to supplying our products, and if Syria needs food, we will be there,” Koval said.
It should be noted that earlier Russian and Syrian sources reported that supplies of Russian wheat to Syria were suspended due to uncertainty about the new government and delays in payments.
It is also noted that Ukraine traditionally exports wheat and corn to Middle Eastern countries, but not to Syria. According to the publication, in the 2023/2024 season, only about 6,000 tons of Ukrainian corn out of a total corn export volume of 29.4 million tons entered the Syrian market.
Meanwhile, analysts claim that small batches of grain of Ukrainian origin could have entered Syria from neighboring countries, but were not included in these statistics.
Earlier, USM reported that Russia is asking the Syrians to keep the naval base in Tartus.
