Ukraine is bringing maritime transport legislation closer to EU standards

The pre-screening of Ukrainian legislation in the field of maritime transport has also started.
This was reported by the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
In particular, this was discussed during a meeting with representatives of the European Commission’s Directorates for Mobility and Transport (DG Move) and Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG Near).
Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Andriy Kashuba emphasized that maritime transport remains the main channel of Ukraine’s international trade.
“Ukraine’s aspiration for European integration puts forward new requirements for the transport sector, in particular for the maritime transport sector. Ukraine consistently prioritizes compliance with its obligations under international agreements, including those included in the EU legislative framework,” said Andriy Kashuba.
During the meeting, directives and legislative acts were considered regarding:
• merchant shipping and inland waterways navigation;
• minimum sanitary and hygienic requirements and requirements for improving medical care on board ships;
• minimum level of training of seafarers;
• supervision of compliance with the maritime legislation of Ukraine and international agreements in the field of merchant shipping on seagoing vessels;
• general rules and standards for organizations that carry out inspection and survey of vessels, as well as for the relevant activities of maritime administrations.
During the presentation, experts from maritime industry enterprises answered questions from representatives of the European Commission and provided the necessary explanations regarding legislative acts.
It should be noted that the next stage is to receive recommendations from European partners, which will contribute to the further adaptation of Ukrainian legislation in the field of maritime transport to European standards.
